Río Breogán has completed the signing of Dominican power forward Andersson Mejía García (25, 2.01 m) to strengthen their frontcourt ahead of the club’s 60th anniversary season. The Lugo side adds a high-energy big with rebounding prowess and offensive upside, backed by stints in the NBA, G League and NCAA.
What does Andersson García bring to Río Breogán?
García arrives after a breakout G League season with the Mexico City Capitanes, where he averaged 10.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 26 minutes. His best outing featured 20 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists, plus a career-high 21 rebounds in a single game. Those numbers underscore his dominance on the boards and his ability to facilitate from the low post.
In five NBA games for the Utah Jazz, he posted 5.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks per contest. His defensive versatility and paint intensity are two of his strongest traits. In college at Texas A&M Aggies, his senior year yielded 6.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and a 38.6% three-point clip.
Career path: from NCAA to NBA via the Dominican Republic
García was developed at Mississippi State and Texas A&M before moving to the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto de República Dominicana in 2025 with the Marineros de Puerto Plata. There he was named Rookie of the Year after averaging 12.3 points and 9.7 rebounds. His rapid rise carried him to the G League and, ultimately, a short-term deal with the Jazz, where he seized the chance to display his game.
The Dominican is also a regular with the Dominican Republic national team, where he brings energy and physicality to the paint. His arrival at the Pazo de Deportes bolsters Río Breogán in a pivotal year, with playoff aspirations in the ACB firmly in sight.
What’s next for Río Breogán with García on the roster?
The club enters its 60th season with ambition and a frontcourt that’s now deeper and more competitive. García joins teammates like Vítor Benvenuti and Kendrik Ray to form a stout and competitive paint. His ability to rebound on both ends and his defensive intensity will be crucial for a side chasing a top-eight finish in Spain’s top flight.
Head coach Veljko Mršić now has another weapon to rotate and apply defensive pressure. García arrives to provide quality minutes and high-level experience, exactly what the team needs in a demanding schedule.
